The Jane Austen Centre

Hello dear readers,

here is my second Bath-post, this time about the very nice Jane Austen Centre. As a great fan of Jane Austen I absolutely wanted to go there- and of course I really enjoyed.

First we went upstairs in the rooms Jane Austen occupied during her years in Bath and heard an interesting talk about her life developement, then everybody was allowed to browse arround upstairs and downstairs in his/her own tempo.

Upstairs was also issued this original dress from the movie “Persuation”.

Downstairs were also a lot of other dresses from the Regency epoche (mostly made by design and costum history students).

These look like Spring/Summer dresses, I think.

It was also shown a whole portrait of this epoche, explanations of conventions and environment.

There were also dresses the visitors could try on. They looked really comfortable but I was wrapped in too many clothes that day so I didn´t give it a try :(. I heared and read many interesting facts about Jane Austen´s time where people were much more frugal than nowadays.

That´s some good advice 😉

To the centre also belongs the Regency Tea Room which sounded great but it was too overcrowded (well, a good sign for its quality) so we couldn´t manage to get a free table and were too short on time.

As I already wrote, next time I have to come to Bath with an overnight stay but it was a lovely experience to visit the Jane Austen Centre and learn more about her time.

By the way: Who´s your favourite character from her novels? Mine is Elinor Dashwood.
